Trump National - Philadelphia and Makefield Highlands to host local qualifiers. The Trump course in South Jersey formerly know as Pine Hill and the Yardley muni Makefield Highlands have been tapped to host local qualifiers for the U.S. Open.

Here’s the press release:

The USGA today announced local qualifying sites for the 2015 U.S. Open Championship. The U.S. Open will be contested June 18-21 at Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash. – the first U.S. Open in the Pacific Northwest.

Local qualifying, conducted over 18 holes at 111 sites in 43 states, will take place between May 4-21.

As Tiger Woods Fades, a Fear That Golf’s Revenue Will, Too. Since joining the PGA Tour in 1996, Tiger Woods has been golf’s transcendent figure, credited with expanding the sport’s television audience, fan base, tournament purses and sponsorship deals.

Over the last six years, he has missed chunks of time because of personal travails and injuries, enabling the tour to test its preparedness for life after the gold rush.

But for all the skill and social media savvy of players like Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson, can they captivate as many people as Woods, who raised the level of athleticism in the game while remaking a sport known for its mostly white country-club composition?

Whitemarsh Valley Country Club. Back in the late spring of 2013, I got an email from Jack Rowe, co-chair of the Green Committee at Whitemarsh Valley CC. He was eager to show off the results of renovations that had been on-going at Whitemarsh since 2011. Phase 1 and Phase 2 – the heavy lifting – were complete; Phase 3 will be completed in the coming months.

I’ve always been a fan of Whitemarsh, in Lafayette Hill, host of the old IVB Golf Classic on the PGA Tour, so I jumped at the chance.

The Union League GC at Torresdale: Makeover for a classic club and course. If all goes as scheduled, in early or mid-May, the Donald Ross-designed course we’ve long known as Torresdale-Frankford Country Club will stage something of a grand reopening amid hoopla and high hopes.

Along with a new name – it is now called The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale – the venerable club in Northeast Philadelphia will boast a $3 million restoration of its classic-era the course, and a $4 million renovation of its stately clubhouse.

"Bringing these two clubs together is the new business model," said Jeff McFadden, general manager of the Union League.

Philadelphia Cricket Club awarded 2020 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball. First, the newly-restored Cricket Club gets the 2015 PGA Professional National Championship, in June.

Now, the USGA has picked Cricket to host the 2020 Amateur Four-Ball, it’s newest championship.

These are fine times for the Wissahickon Course, which was also cited by Golf Digest as one of the best restoration projects of the year.

A: Yeah, I do. As the events unfolded, I might have been naďve about some of what was going on around me. The PGA of America gave me a lot of flexibility and freedom to say whatever I wanted. Augusta National unseats Pine Valley as No. 1 in Golf Digest latest rankings. Augusta National, home of the Masters, and Pine Valley, our hometown layout of some distinction, continue to play leap-frog with one another in the latest Golf Digest rankings of America’s 100 Greatest Courses.

Pine Valley maintains a shred of dignity and self-respect by holding on to the No. 2 spot.
