Dad and 2 sons, three days, three holes-in-one at West Chester G&CC. What are the odds of a Dad and his two teenage sons all making hole-in-one on the same course in the same week?

Well, it happened recently at West Chester G&CC, when Liam, Mike and Evan Pitt each aced par 3s at their club.

Club pro and GM Joe Missimer has the details:

It all started on Wednesday, Aug. 12th. Liam Pitt (age 15) was playing with one of Junior Golf buddies, Mike Dinacci. They came to the 9th hole which had a front left hole location. Liam was second to hit. The 9th hole plays at 156 yards...

Golfing Apps That Improve Play From Tee to Green. A review of four golfing apps that can turn your smartphone (or watch) into a virtual caddie, scorecard and rule book, helping everyone from duffers to scratch players get more out of the game.

. Of the many golf-related apps, some are intended to improve your technique and mastery of the sport, while others are aimed at increasing a golfer’s knowledge of the rules. Still other apps will teach you tricks about your favorite golf course.

For all the rules of the game, people can go straight to the source — the R&A, one of golf’s governing bodies — with the official Rules of Golf app for iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7. The free app is simple, even austere in design, with muted colors, simple text and a plain graphical interface.

What To Make Of Tiger?. To borrow from screenwriter William Goldman’s iconic comment about Hollywood, when it comes to Tiger Woods, nobody knows anything.

There are three reasons for this. First, it’s golf, which no one has ever figured out. Second, much if not all of the pertinent information is possessed by Tiger Woods, who doesn’t over-share. And, third, unless you count Bobby Jones retiring at 28, we have never seen a truly historic player fall so far, so fast, so early.

Jaime Diaz has more in Golf World.

The death of golf.... It’s a catchy, scary headline for a very sobering assessment of the state of the game in the August issue of Men’s Journal magazine.

The sub-head on the piece reads:

It’s expensive, difficult, and demands the kind of time most people get only when they go on vacation — or retire. From the dried up fairways of Southern California to the vacant course-side condos on the Carolina coast, we survey the sport’s demise — and the entrepreneurs hoping to reinvent it for a new, less patient generation. It’s painful but essential reading.

Hyndman Memorial Classic to commemorate legendary amateur’s 100th birthday. In the history of Philadelphia golf, few names stand out more than Bill Hyndman, one of the most accomplished amateur players this country has ever produced.

Hyndman, who died in 2001 at the age of 85, won his first Philadelphia Amateur title in 1935, when he was only 19. He went on to win two more Amateur titles, 10 Patterson Cup crowns, six Silver Crosses from the Golf Association of Philadelphia.

Hyndman’s legacy is such that each year the Philadelphia Section PGA conducts the The William Hyndman III Memorial Classic at Huntingdon Valley Country Club, his home club.

The steel-town toughness, the artistry and flair, the athleticism, competitiveness and poise he exhibits, all can be sourced to his Pennsylvania heritage.

Frank Fitzpatrick has the story in the Inquirer.
