Corey Pavin’s wife is The Captainess. Her name is Lisa and she has earned the nickname The Captainess.

Pavin’s former personal assistant before they married, she is still all business. For the Ryder Cup, she has taken on multiple duties.

“She is a multi-tasker on a mission, a spit-fire organizer,” said Julius Mason, VP for communications for the PGA. “In addition to her responsibilities as a loving wife and new mother, she has also been playing the role of strategist, councilor and confidant to Corey."

She’s taking care of the team gifts, the daily dining menus, team room and clubhouse décor. She wants to make sure each player and caddies’ rooms are tailored specifically for them.

Who is Sean Foley?. At last week’s PGA Championship, all eyes were on Tiger Woods and Sean Foley, as the No. 1 player in the world seemed to audition a new swing coach.

In doing so, as Jaime Diaz writes in Golf World, Woods signaled that he’s ready to end the experiment of working on his swing alone, undertaken when he split with Hank Haney in May and initially intended to last through the year.

It also meant that Woods will be employing new concepts that are radically opposed to Haney’s, exposing Woods’ consciousness to the disturbing thought that all of his hard work and dedication since 2004 was at least somewhat misdirected.

A look at Whistling Straits. By actual count, there are 967 bunkers on the Straits Course at Whistling Straits, north of Sheboygan, Wis. Ron Whitten of Golf Digest knows, because we were the first to be crazy enough to count every one.

For the 2010 PGA Championship, only a hundred or so bunkers will be raked before play every day, and probably half that many will be of any concern for the caliber of players in the PGA. The rest are merely eye candy, distant targets.
