Philadelphia Section PGA using Little League model to grow Junior Golf. As those of us that play the game already know, golf is very rich in tradition and history. Unfortunately, some of the things that make the game so special are also some of the things that are keeping it from growing.

To non-golfers the game portrays a certain image that makes it difficult to attract new people to the sport. Golf can be a time consuming, difficult sport, with a lot of complicated rules. These are not qualities that appeal to many people when it comes to learning a new hobby. It is important that beginners and juniors view golf as a fun, interactive game they can enjoy with their friends.

Vijay Singh fights for fellow Tour players, could expand his lawsuit, lawyer say. Justice Eileen Bransten of the New York State Supreme Court recently delivered a blow to Singh’s case, limiting the scope of discovery to the Tour’s policies and penalties for the use of the growth hormone IGF-1, according to documents made public last week. Archives: Appreciating a Master: William S. Flynn. Every now and then, while doing research, I stumble across a story I wrote years ago for The Philadelphia Inquirer that is still a fun read. Like one from May 2000 on William S. Flynn.

"No architect has put his mark on the Philadelphia golf scene with the flourish and enduring impact of William S. Flynn, who left his native Massachusetts to become greenskeeper at Merion Golf Club soon after it was completed in 1912, and who never left the area," I wrote.

"Manufacturers’ Golf and Country Club, Huntingdon Valley Country Club, Philadelphia Country Club, Philmont Country Club, Rolling Green Country Club, Green Valley Country Club, Lancaster Country Club - they are all fabulous, and they are all Flynn."

Dan Burton, former GAP president, talks about rising within USGA . Only a few years ago, Dan Burton was president of GAP. Then he joined the Executive Committee of the USGA and began a steady climb within the ranks of the game’s governing body in this country.

Now, Burton (left, with USGA Executive Director Mike Davis) , is next in line to become president of the USGA, in two years.

But first, Burton, must serve out his duties as chairman of the USGA’s Championship Committee, which include overseeing the two recent Opens at Pinehurst and the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open at his home club, Lancaster CC.

China’s recent golf course crackdown masks staggering pace of construction. According to Reuters, Chinese authorities have closed five golf courses throughout the country since March, digging up three and converting two more for other uses, a supposed signal to "would-be" violators of the government’s 2004 ban on the construction of new golf courses that Beijing is getting serious about enforcement.
