this year’s ShopRite LPGA Classic.
Here’s the press release, with the changes in bold.
HISTORIC
SEAVIEW HOTEL & GOLF CLUB TO TEE-OFF NEW ERA WITH BAY COURSE RENOVATION
Celebrating
its 100th Anniversary, Home of the ShopRite LPGA Classic and Sam
Snead’s First Major Victory
at the 1942
PGA Championship, Seaview Remains the Northeast’s
Premier 36-Hole Resort Golf Destination
GALLOWAY, N.J. – February 18,
2014 – Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club
– A Dolce Resort, a Troon Golf-managed facility
and one of the premier resort destinations in the Northeast, will soon tee-off
a new era of golf excellence when a renovation to the famed Bay Course is
completed on April 1 for the start of the 2014 golf season.
The renovation project is designed to
not only enhance the championship-caliber play for the game’s best women
players during the 2014 ShopRite LPGA Classic (May 26-June 1), but it will
further add to the overall enjoyment of golfers visiting the most storied
36-hole golf facility in the Southern New Jersey and the Philadelphia areas.
"For local golfers and golfing
travelers visiting the area, Seaview’s championship
courses, combined with its history of hosting not only the game’s best players
but hundreds of famed celebrities, athletes and dignitaries, makes it a truly
memorable golf experience," said Kevin DeDonato, PGA
Director of Golf, Seaview Hotel & Golf Club. "The
course renovation will create a greater playing experience for the ladies of
the LPGA, as well as golfers of all levels, and we are very excited that this
project is being completed during our centennial in 2014."
DeDonato adds, "The
commitment of Seaview’s owner, Richard Stockton
College of New Jersey, is unmatched as they continually redefine the customer
experience, while always promoting the tremendous heritage that has endured for
100 years."
Seaview Hotel &
Golf Club boasts an unrivaled golf history in the region, having hosted
presidents, movie stars, royalty, entertainers and of course professional
golfers, including some of game’s greatest players such as Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazen, Nancy Lopez, Annika Sorenstam and Betsy King,
among many others. Most notably, the Bay Course hosted the 1942 PGA
Championship where the legendary Sam Snead holed a spectacular 60-foot chip
shot on the 37th hole to secure a 2-1 victory over Jim Turnesa
and capture the first of his seven major championships.
Highlighting
the Bay Course renovation are new tee boxes on the fourth, fifth, 10th and 12th
holes, which will add 150 yards in overall length to the golf course. Also, the
creation of a new bunker complex between the fourth and fifth holes will
further enhance the playing experience from the new back tee on hole number
five.
Additional
course refinements include the rebuilding of all existing tee boxes and tee
surfaces on the Bay Course to create a better, more consistent playing surface
for golfers; new GPS units in the golf carts; completely redesigned tee signs,
markers and in-ground tee & fairway yardage plates; and new retro wooden
bunker rakes and pin flags.
Located just minutes from Atlantic
City, Seaview’s unique and historical resort setting
is home to 36 holes of Championship golf on two of New Jersey’s oldest and most
prestigious golf courses. The links-style Bay Course, home to the ShopRite LPGA
Classic, was designed by legendary architect Donald Ross, while the critically
acclaimed Pines Course, with its scenic parkland setting, showcases the
inherent beauty of Southern New Jersey’s pine forest landscape.
In 2008 and 2009, Seaview
was honored with 4½ stars from Golf
Digest magazine for "Best Places to Play," while in 2012 and 2013 the
facility was honored by Golfweek magazine as one of the "Best Courses You
Can Play" in New Jersey. In 2013, the Golf Shop at Seaview
was recognized among America’s 100 Best Golf Shops by Golf World for the third consecutive year, while also receiving
a Platinum Award from the Association of Golf Merchandisers, which recognizes
premier golf shops from the private, public, resort and off-course sectors.
